RDS Business Suite™

What is the RDS Business Suite?
The RDS Business Suite is a collection of three highly complementary business information databases - Business & Industry, Business & Management Practices, and TableBase.  Subscriptions through the RDS Business Suite interface may include either one, two or all three databases. Using the Business Suite search interface you may search each database individually through  search interfaces that are designed to optimize the searching of each individual database.  It is also possible to search across two or three databases simultaneously through the Business Suite search interface.

The Concept Term and Document Type fields on the Business Suite interface are dynamically built lists of terms drawn specifically from the databases that have been selected for a specific search. Click on the clear.gif (1011 bytes) button to assure that all terms from the databases selected for a search have been loaded. This process will re-draw the search interface updating any database changes.

When to use the RDS Business Suite?
The RDS Business Suite search interface is useful when searching for broad profiling information about companies or industries. The content from each database is highly complementary.   Additionally, searching B&I and TableBase together produces results which include the textual content from B&I supported by the tabular content of TableBase.

How to use BaMP
Business & Management Practices may be searched by entering words or word phrases in the Word or Phrase field. Words or phrases may be joined with Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to develop more complex search statements.

For greater precision in the searching process, enter a company name into the "Company Name" field.  To narrow or target your search even further, you may select terms from the additional index field text boxes which include, Concept Terms, Department Names, Industry Names, SIC/Product Codes, Document Types, Geographic Names, and/or Journal Names. While making selections from these additional index field text boxes are not required, the use of these additional terms should produce more precise retrieval results.

Please note: It is important to remember, that the more you narrow your search by using the additional index field terms, the greater the chance of limiting yourself into an "empty set" result. Meaning that, you may not get any results because you have made the search too specific.

What is TableBase? - back to top

TableBase is a database comprised of tabular information of a strategic nature. Every record has a unique table title written by our editorial staff which aids users in making precise selection of tables that meet their searching needs. Many of the table records also have textual content which supports the data in the tables.  The tables provide information such as: market share, market size, capacity, production, imports, exports, sales, product and brand rankings, forecasts, healthcare statistics and demographics.

Tables are easy to find in TableBase because the tablular data is the focus of the record - the content of the tables are indexed - not the content of the text that may accompany the tables. This results in extremely accurate results when searching for tabular information related to companies, industries, products, markets and demographics.

When to use TableBase?
Use TableBase to find tabular information to access strategically oriented business information in tabular format.

How to use TableBase?
TableBase may be searched by entering words or word phrases in the "Word or Phrase" field. Words or phrases may be joined with Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to develop more complex search statements. For greater precision in the searching process, enter a company name into the "Company Name" field  when appropriate.

Another feature of TableBase is that only the table title, table text, and descriptor fields are searchable.  Text that accompanies the table is not searchable. This helps to assure that the words entered for a search appear in the table and produce relevant result sets. Additionally, you may select terms from the index field text boxes which include Concept Terms, Marketing Terms, Industry Names, SIC/Product Codes, Document Types, Geographic Codes, and Journal Names.
