Responsive Database Services, Inc. (RDS) applies the same Product Names and Product Codes to all business databases. This process builds consistency into search especially when structuring a search across multiple databases.  RDS Product Codes are based one the U.S. Department of Commerce Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) codes. We have extended the Product Codes to 6 digits to reflect new products, technologies and services.   Product Codes are heirachical through the first 4 numbers.

Product Names may be entered in the Words and Phrases field.  Such a search will retrieve all articles that include the terms that have been entered regardless of where they may appear in the article (title, abstract, text or descriptor).  For greater preceision, product names may be preceded with a PN= (for example PN=IRON AND STEEL FOUNDARIES).

The example below illustrates how a prefix search of a Product Name may be completed in the Words and Phrases field.

Product Codes may be entered in the SIC/Product Code field. To browse the list of available Product Codes click on the FIND SIC button. This will take you to a screen where you may expand through a range of Product Codes to find the appropriate term. Click on the hyper linked Product Code term to automatically fill it into the SIC/Product Code.

Product Codes may also be entered in the Words and Phrases field when preceded by the PC= prefix (for example, PC=3571).

The examples below illustrate the two methods of entering Product Code or SIC searches. Each will produce the same results. It is important to note that Product Codes truncate automatically - it is not necessary to enter the * symbol to truncate Product Codes.
